  • Hey. I would like to start translating your articles into Russian. How can I create alternative pages with Russian translation?

  • Hello. Can you add me on Steam? :)

I think you are a wonderful person. I admire and adore the work you do on the Wikias!

    • Haha, I'm nowhere near good enough to warrant an add on steam mate. If you wanna help out with the wiki, you're more than welcome to, I've been super busy running projects and stuff so wikia's been left by the wayside a bit

    • Please, come on. :) I'm sure we can chat for 6 minutes.

I won't twist your arm or ask again. Best of luck!

    • I'll leave you in peace, then. I think the work you do is wonderful. :)

Here's a favorite quote of mine: "Because the most wonderful thing in the world, I think, is the ability of human vision to correlate all its contents. We live on a savage island of ignorance in the midst of shining seas of infinity, and it was always meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto helped us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such incredible vistas of reality, and of our stunning position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation, or step from the dark into the peace and majesty of a new and shining age."

      Bye.

  • Hi, Demise101!

I was wondering if you had an opinion on this site being included in the new gaming footers? We'd love for the DOTA community to be included!

    Best regards,

  • I was told to message you, regarding my block on the LoLwiki . - . its been a while and I'm innocent and can I have my account back?

      Loading editor
    • Hi, whoever told you this is wrong.

As I'm sure I made quite clear in chat, all I said was that you can post a message to your own Message Wall (on the wiki) regarding your block, giving reasoning as to why you believe you are innocent. Since the issue requires the use of checkuser, Teh or Neon have the floor.

If you post your message and it isn't seen within a few days, I'll message them and ask them to make a decision.

  • I would like to propose an overhaul of the existing Hero pages for all heroes of both games. While some heroes maintain their identities in both 1 and 2, others end up having to change their class or name due to copyright issues with Blizzard Entertainment.

For example, Medusa has a single page dedicated to her which functions as her main profile for both games. Considering that she has different artwork in 2 and new portraits (even if her skill set is mostly the same), I think this warrants necessary change. In the case of the Lich, Kel'Thuzad is from Blizzard while Ethreain is owned by Valve and yet the name of the former is used in their shared page, so I think this also needs to be amended.

    • Hi sapphire,

So what are you proposing? I do agree that in many cases there are awkward article titles because of changes between the two games, but this doesn't happen for every hero. Are you asking for a complete split between the Allstars and Dota 2 versions of each hero, or just for the ones with the changes? More relevantly, what kind of benefit do you see in splitting these two?

      Thanks! Demise

    • Yes, I am proposing we go for a complete split. Each hero from both games (regardless of whether or not their respective identities are the same) will have their own pages and portraits, and I'm thinking they should be addressed by their names rather than titles. For example: Traxex from Allstars retains her identity and skills in the sequel, and yet the backstory and artwork is different. Therefore, I would have that split into Traxex (Blizzard) and Traxex (Valve) so that readers are aware which character is owned by which company, allowing them to pick the one that they are familiar with or the one they have yet to try in the other game. The same would apply to all other heroes as well.

I know it might seem like a lot of work, but I think it will be good for this wikia as a whole because it will function like the encyclopedia it is supposed to be. Also, not going for an overhaul means that curious readers who come by looking for a particular hero on this wikia may find themselves confused at the oft times incomplete or mixed data on their favorite heroes. Lastly, what if (and this is purely hypothetical) Valve decides to -on the offchance- create DOTA 3 within the next decade or so? Then that would mean another set of heroes from another game whose own identites may clash with that of the current ones.

      What do you think?

        Loading editor
    • well, the issue that I see with this is mainly the fact that a hero's identity shouldn't be based on which company owns them. I brought the tabber function into the wiki to separate the two, since I felt splitting the articles would involve both a higher amount of maintenance as well as confusion. With the Traxex page, for example, the Dota 2 and Allstars data is quite clearly modulated, with an obvious emphasis on Dota 2 as the front tabber. The lore is placed in sequential order, which would give you whatever information you wanted in the order you probably should read it in.

Are you aware of the redirect function? It lets you make a page title redirect to others: E.g. I could make both Kel'Thuzad's and Etherian's articles automatically bring you to "Lich King" (for lack of a better name).

For your second paragraph, there are a lot of issues with this wiki, and I'm sure that the incomplete/mixed data has less to do with the layout, and more to do with the harsh truth that the site's understaffed and almost impossible to keep up to date. The reason why I'm giving resistance to your suggestion is that the content's spread out so thinly already that splitting each article in half would pretty much lead to 400 stubs being where 200 somewhat full articles once were.
